Gameplay Profile:

The Dragoon Class Destroyer only sounds like it ought to be a vessel of the Coalition Destroyer designation. In point of fact, it is aptly named for a very different reason. Its powerful heavy weapons are unique to the Dragoon. They are, essentially, open-ended fusion bottles. Advanced electromagnetic and gravitic technology allow for the resulting plasma lances to be focused yet turbulent for a sustainable, devastating medium ranged beam weapon, or a directed thruster of huge proportions. The Dragoon has two of these Heavy Plasma Torches, located on the port and starboard dorsal surfaces of its dagger-like hull. In addition, it sports 4 plasma projectors mounted in accelerator turrets near the ship's prow, and the edges of its flanks are lined with lasers and coil guns. To round off its armament, the bow holds Voreekan-style torpedo tubes while the ventral surface is pocked with tiny missile tubes for its light missile complement, and considerably larger tubes for its Nova missiles.

To complete the sinking feeling of anyone unfortunate enough to face one of these craft, it should be known that, in addition to a hull that is designed to boast an out-sized conventional drive, it also possesses some of the largest of conventional maneuvering thrusters ever on a ship its size, redundant FTL drives, and an efficient (and equally redundant) inertial compensator.

Although the ship is wrapped in triple-redundant shielding, connected to the active composite armor, its huge thrusters are vulnerable when cold. When hot, the hybrid electro-gravitic plasma lenses built into them are strong enough to deflect, rend, or redirect most attacks. It might survive a near miss by a thermonuclear weapon, but the energy trapped within its defensive shielding can be intense enough to soften its armor. Melted thoroughly enough, the shields can lose integrity. While this disperses the heat nearly instantaneously, the cooling armor fuses and becomes inert.
