Gameplay Profile:
The Harpoon is an almost conventional interceptor. Its weapons loadout of a pair each of plasma projectors and Dugond-style lasers doesn't seem too excessive, for the technology base. However, it sports "boosters" that are actually limited use, short range FTL drives. This allows them to interdict enemy bombers further out sooner than other fighters, but if a Harpoon were to somehow be damaged instead of outright destroyed, the frame can no longer weather the stress of FTL transit. These shuttles actually make poor SCP assets, due to their low number of weapons, but excel at long range interdiction.
[edit] Lore Information
Manufacturer: Talba Shipyards
Operator: Dugond Protectorate, A dozen or more members of the United Systems Hegemony
Lore Profile
Talba is a relatively new company; a branch-off of the company that made the prestigious Striker design, that made its name during the Durion Conflict in the home galaxy.
The Harpoon Interceptor was built to provide an an answer to long range torpedo bombers. The Dugond Space Navy relies on the more expensive Striker in its modern form, while the Protectorate fields some of these cheaper craft. Their smaller price tag found them favor among members of the USH, and won them a contract with a certain expedition.
