Tactical Weapons

Tactical weapons are monstrously powerful weapon subsystems that can only be installed on largest or most advanced units. They usually embody the most advanced technology of the faction that produced it and are very difficult to defend against.


Due to their very nature of been only borderline scientifically plausible, they will be subject to frequent and possibly fundamental revisions.


Unlike most other weapon modules, tactical weapons have very low ammo count if they use ammo, and have a very long cool down time if they do not. It is usually possible to reinforce every unit destroyed by a tactical weapon before it could fire again.


For this reason, tactical weapons have a different role from other weapons in that they are used to effectively disables key assets (by forcing them to reinforce) to gain a temporally advantage, rater then used to destroy the enemy fleet over and over. In that aspect, they have more in common with electronic warfare systems then other weapons.


Battles between units carrying tactical weapons could boil down who can charge theirs a few seconds faster then their enemy.
